I’m Shardonnay. I’m the PiP Student Rep. My ethnic background is Black British Caribbean because that is where my grandparents were born and raised.
“Black History Month means to me is a time for black people to come together to successfully celebrate all the diversity and to heros whom stood up for us in human and civil rights.”
I am autistic and have a learning disability. There isn’t much about disability in my culture. I’d like to find out more. I don’t think there are many role models of black people with learning disabilities or autism. Toni Braxton’s son was diagnosed with Austim and also Katie Price’s son Harvey has a learning disability and autism too.
Normally I like to celebrate Black History Month at PiP with a quiz that I design about black people. It is tricky this year due to COVID to do a quiz for all the students.
Next year for Black History Month I would like to have a cultural evening where all Caribbean people come together. Maybe a quiz night at a local hall and also to find some more exhibitions about famous black people that all students can visit.
